SUSPECTED cultists on Tuesday night, killed a vigilance group member known as Precious Nnamdi, along Hospital Road, Ahoada town, in Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State.

It was gathered that the suspected cultists bearing guns intercepted the vigilance personnel while he was on patrol along Hospital Road and shot him severally, but the bullets reportedly did not penetrate.

Community sources informed the  reporter that the assailants later used sticks and iron objects found around the scene to hit the vigilance member until he died before they fled.

The development, it was gathered, has led to tension in Ahoada town, even as none of the two dominant cult groups (Iceland and Greenland) in the LGA has claimed responsibility for the attack.

A community source also disclosed that the deceased hailed from Ihuike community in Ula-Upata Kingdom, Ahoada East LGA.

The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Grace Iringe-Koko, a Superintendent of Police (SP), has confirmed the incident to journalists.

She said: “Yes, I can confirm the incident.The victim was rushed to the hospital where he was certified dead by a medical doctor on duty. He has been deposited in the mortuary. Investigation is ongoing.”

She added that the Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, has ordered the Area Commander and Tactical units to arrest the perpetrators of the heinous crime.
