GUNMEN suspected to be cultists loyal to late cult leader, David Gift, popularly known as 2Baba, have killed a former youth leader, Godspower Uwhetu, in Odhiaje community, Ahoada East local government area of Rivers State on Wednesday.

Pentoks News gathered that the suspected cultists numbering about five led by Sam, invaded the youth leader’s house about 1am, brought him out and shot him dead in front of his house and fled.

Speaking to newsmen, former Public Relations Officer of Igbu Akoh Youth Congress, Hector Ekeakita, said he was informed at the early hours of the day that a former youth leader of Odhiaje by name Godspower Uwhetu was killed by a man simply identified as Sam.

According to Ekeakita, before the incident, mother of Sam was said to have accused Uwhetu of calling soldiers to raid the house of his son, stating that “his son is innocent.”

“Since that day, Uwhetu has being on the run; Uwhetu also told his friends that if anything happens to him, Sam should be held responsible.

“Only for us to wake up this morning to notice that Uwhetu has been murdered, this same Sam is one of the 2Baba’s loyalist who escaped death when security agency attacked their base.”

Ekeakita stated. “The people of Igbu Akoh kingdom is still having shocking news of gunshots on daily basis. As at last week, in odieke-Akoh community, some people’s property were vandalized, their solar light vandalized.”

The former PRO called on the Sole Administrator, the Nigeria Police, Nigeria Air force, and the military residing in Ahoada to come to their aid before the situation will escalate further.

He appealed: “We are calling on security network in Ahoada to beef up security. We are calling on the Police, JTF and the LGA Administrator to fish the boys out who does not want to give peace chance in Ekpeye land.”

Meanwhile, the Rivers State Police Command was yet to respond to the incident as of the time of filing this report.
