SECURITY operatives have arrested a suspected cultist at the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Iwofe, Rumulomeni, in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Rivers State.
It was gathered that the suspect was apprehended by campus security operatives, following a supremacy and territorial control battle between suspected Vikings and Black Axe cult groups.
Reports gathered revealed that suspected members of Black Axe (Aye) had invaded the University in search of their rivals, Vikings (Baggers) cult members, in retaliation to an attack on an executive member of Aye Confraternity on August 12, 2024, in the institution’s campus.
In the ensuing fracas last Monday, a suspected cultist was arrested by security personnel at Ignatius Ajuru Campus and a Baretta pistol was allegedly recovered from the suspect, as students scampered for safety.
According to sources, the suspect, whose identity could not be disclosed, was taken to the Rumulomeni Police Division at Iwofe and later transferred to the headquarters of Anti-Cultism unit of the State Police Command.
The spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, a Superintendent of Police (SP), confirmed the incident to journalist.
The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), however, did not confirm that a firearm was recovered from the suspect.
“Yes, I can confirm the incident. One suspect is in Police custody. Investigation is ongoing and adequate security measures have been put in place to prevent break down of law and order,” the PPRO was quoted.
