Sanusi Remains Emir of Kano, State Govt
From PAULINE PODKA, Abuja
Kano State government has maintained that Mohammudu Sanusi 11, remains the Emir of Kano.
The government has also directed the Police Commissioner to immediately evict Aminu Ado Bayero, the 15th Emir of Kano, from his current résidence at the mini – palace in Nasarawa area of the metropolis.
State Attorney General, Isa Dederi, while speaking to the media on Thursday, following the ruling by the Federal High Court presided by Justice A. M. Liman, explained that the court’s ruling has unequivocally reaffirmed the validity of the law passed by the State House of Assembly and assented to by the Governor of the State on Thursday, May 23, 2024, by 5.10 pm.
He explained that the implication of the court’s ruling was that all actions done by the government before the emergence of the interim order of the Court were equally validated.
Dederi said: “This means that Muhammadu Sanusi II remains the Emir of Kano.
“Happily, the signing of the law and the reinstatement of His Highness, Emir Muhamamd Sunusi II, were done on 23rd May, 2024, before the emergence of the Interim Order which was served on us on Monday, 27th May, 2024.”
Dederi, flanked by the Commissioner of Information and other top government officials in the state, also informed the media that the court had granted their application for the stay of proceedings pending the outcome of their appeal on jurisdiction currently before the Court of Appeal.
He further noted that following the ruling, the State Government has directed the State Commissioner of Police to remove the deposed emir of the eight metropolitan local governments from the Government property, where he is trespassing as Government has already concluded arrangements for the general reconstruction and renovation of the property including the demolition and reconstruction of the dilapidated wall fence with immediate effect.
He congratulated the people of Kano State and urged them to remain peaceful and celebrate the success without any hitch.
