ROTARY  Club International, District 9141, has partnered with the Rivers State University (RSU) to build a Social Disability Centre for students living with disabilities.

The District, which covers Rivers, Bayelsa, Delta and Edo states, converged in Port Harcourt for the Garden City Promax Installation of the 9th District Governor.

With the theme “Unite for One” the District Governor Anthony Woghiren, said the building of the proposed disability center for education in the Rivers State University (RSU) is one of the projects that will cater for the accessibility needs for the physically challenged students.

“The reason for the building the special center is because as Rotarians we need to involve our services to humanity and the only way we can do that is by changing the lives of our children with disability challenges through education and literacy “; he disclosed.

Woghiren stressed the special literacy center will consist of West African Examination Council (WAEC) and University Matriculation Examination (UME) computer-based test centers and called on Nigerians to key into the laudable project.

To further highlight the projects for 2025/2026 Rotary year, the District Governor detailed the projects as a community based one.

He said: “This year, we are focusing on membership, creating 30 new club charters, water projects in communities as well as the nooks and crannies of the four states under our purview, strengthening youth development and ensuring we give our best to everything we do”

The immediate past president of the Rotary Club District 9141, Chinedu Ikegwani, congratulated his successor as he passed a vote of confidence in him.

“My advice to him is to lead from the front, which he is already doing and make sure he has listening ears to the people he is leading so that he will be able to know where he needs to be worked on.”

Ikegwani also commended his successor for starting on a good note.

“I know he is going to do well, he has already started very well, raised over $100,000 for the foundation within one month and has recruited a good number of new members, he is doing well so far”; he said.

In the same vein, the Chartered President, Rotary Club of Nigeria Port Harcourt Eco, Emem Okon, expressed optimism in aligning with the District to promote environmental protection and conservation in the District.

“We recognise the environmental challenges in the Niger Delta and we are looking forward to this Rotary Year 2025/2026 to intensify efforts to protect the environment, to see what the District can do to promote environmental health and sustainability. In my club, we are looking at enhancing mangrove conservation, planting, enhancing waste recycling.”
