From ERIC MOORE, Port Harcourt
A Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has remanded His Royal Highness, Eze Cyprian Amadi-Worenwu, the Eze Risi Ohia-Emeri Abali of Rebisi to Port Harcourt Correctional Centre on a count charge bordering on cyber crime.
On the charge read against traditional ruler, he was alleged to have on March 28, 2023, “transmitted and communicated” a message to one Sunday Gift-Chinenem phone number to “threaten, harass and placed retired Justice Adolphus Enebeli under apprehension of fear of death.”
The charge also disclosed how the accused threatened that he knows where retired Justice Adolphus Enebeli’s son is working and that the retired judge would not live to enjoy his retirement.
According to the charge, Eze Amadi-Worenwu threatened to kill retired Justice Adolphus Enebeli for refusing to deliver judgement in his favour in a chieftaincy suit between him and Christopher Wonodi and others delivered on March 20, 2023, “an offence which is contrary to section 24 (B.C) I. Prohibition Prevention etc. Acts 2015.”
Pentoks News gathered that the accused monarch pleaded not guilty to the charge.
But, trial Judge, Justice Emmanuel Obele, refused an oral bail application by the defence counsel, A.S. Amadi, which was opposed by Prosecution counsel, ASP Walter Ogwuikpile.
Justice Obele thereafter adjourned the matter till July 29, 2024, for bail consideration; but, ordered that the accused be reminded in Port Harcourt Correctional Centre till the next adjourned date.
Detectives of Rivers State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), arrested and detained the traditional ruler, after jumping earlier bail and avoiding invitations of the Police over the alleged threat to the lives of a retired Justice Adolphus Enebeli and his family members.
It was gathered that as the accused visited the SCID on Monday, he was rearrested by Police operatives and taken straight to court, where court ordered that he should be remanded.
