Anti-Fubara Lawmakers

THE Joint Action for Democracy (JAD) has called on Nigerians to demand accountability from the judiciary, to protect its independence and restore the confidence citizens have in the judiciary, as the last hope of justice.
JAD reacting to the viral video showing Martin Amaewhule and other members of the Rivers State House of Assembly waving the All Progressives Congress (APC) flag at the twilight of the political quagmire and purported defection from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to APC, decried the recent inconsistencies within courts of coordinate jurisdiction and obvious political influence that has bastardized the essence of fairness and justice.
National Coordinator of JAD, Peter Amen, in a statement, said that politicians now boastfully use the judiciary as a weapon to undo their opponents and procure a judgement in their favour.
JAD argued that the pro-Wike lawmakers of the 10th House of Assembly, who voluntarily announced their defection to APC without any established crisis within their party, PDP, and swore to an affidavit to authenticate their defection, automatically lost their seats as prescribed by law.
The national coordinator maintained: “We have seen how they still boast that they shall influence the judiciary in their favour.
“Nigerians, especially Rivers people, rely on the Supreme Court to put the record straight without any undue influence.
“The Supreme Court, as the highest decision maker, is expected to protect the sanctity of Nigeria’s Judicial system to avert the breakdown of law and order in the oil-rich Rivers State.”
