THERE was pandemonium on Saturday morning along popular Ikoku market, in Port Harcourt City Local Government Area of Rivers State following the discovery of a corpse.
The corpse of the middle-aged man which had caused panic in business owners and residents of the area had multiple machete cuts.
Among parts of the body chopped off were his private part and side of buttocks.
Eyewitnesses, who saw the corpse disclosed that his stomach was ripped open and intestine allegedly removed.
The corpse was sighted at the front of a new generation bank by Ayama junction along Olu-Obasanjo road Port Harcourt.
Pentoks News gathered from eyewitnesses that the machete cuts on the dead body suggest that the man was murdered for ritual.
One of the sources who gave his name as Emmanuel, believed the incident was executed early Saturday morning.
The eyewitness added that the identity of the deceased could not be ascertained.
He said: “I believe this man was killed very early in the morning today (Saturday). I’m sure it wasn’t yesterday, because I passed this area last night when I was returning from work.
“If it was yesterday, people would have discovered it earlier than now.
“This is the handiwork of ritualists. It’s only ritualists that can cut parts of the man’s body in this manner. It’s too barbaric.”
The State Police Command is yet to officially react to the incident.
