Presidency Denies Agreeing to N105,000 Minimum Wage
From PAULINE PODKA, Abuja
The Presidency has denied rumours that the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, has proposed N105,000 as minimum wage.
The denial was delivered in a brief statement on Thursday, by Bayo Onanuga, President Bola Tinubu’s Special Advisor on Information and Strategy, shortly after the report went viral.
Onanuga stated: “The Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, has not proposed N105,000 minimum wage. The contrary story being disseminated is false.”
It was reported that Wale Edun presented the projected cost implications of the new minimum wage template to President Tinubu earlier on Thursday, June 6, in order to meet the 48-hour ultimatum given to him by the president.
The Tripartite Committee on the new national minimum wage will meet every day for the next one week to arrive at an agreeable national minimum wage.
The organized Labour insisted that no worker would be victimized as a result of the industrial action.
Pentoks News gathered that a new proposal suggests a minimum wage of N105,000 (approximately $71) per month for Nigerian workers.
Meanwhile, President Tinubu is said to be currently reviewing this proposal, and an official announcement is expected soon.
