THE Rivers State Police Command on Thursday, detained Mr. Kelvin Okoro, who allegedly murdered Reverend Sister Maureen Wecheonwu and fled.
She was killed on March 26, 2025, in Aluu community in Ikwerre Local Government of the state.
Community sources disclosed that the suspect was apprehended on Thursday morning, when Kingsley Wali, Commander of a local vigilance group known as ONELGA Security and Planning Advisory Committee (OSPAC), in Aluu community led his personnel to Okoro’s hideout.
It was gathered that the suspect lured the reverend sister to a lonely place in pretence of discussing the huge debt he was owing her which he (suspect) was unable to pay, when he allegedly killed her and fled the community.
State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Grace Iringe-Koko, a Superintendent of Police (SP), has confirmed the incident to the media.
She said the State Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, has directed transfer of the suspect and case file to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) for further investigation.
“Yes, I can confirm the arrest of the suspect. The Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, has directed the transfer of the suspect and case file to State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) Port Harcourt for discreet investigation.”
