Police Arrest Security Officer For Car Theft In Rivers
From ERIC MOORE, Port Harcourt
A 27-year-old native of Ogoni, in Rivers State, Mr. Meshack Monday, has been apprehended by crack operatives of the Olu Obasanjo Division of the State Police Command for alleged car theft.
Police said Monday was nabbed while driving a Toyota Corolla along Olu Obasanjo, exhibiting suspicious maneuvers, which caught officers’ attention as he attempted to evade them near the G.R.A junction in Port Harcourt.
State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Grace Iringe-Koko, a Superintendent of Police (SP), said after a high-speed chase onto Abah road, G.R.A, the suspect was successfully apprehended.
She said during interrogation, Monday, a security officer at Geepap Mobile Company, confessed to his crime.
According to the PPRO, Monday, despite working there for two years, had concealed his driving skills.
He admitted succumbing to temptation when hunger struck at midnight, stealing a customer’s car parked for maintenance to sell and improve his life.
Iringe-Koko said: “Upon contacting Geepap’s General Manager, Mr. Godfrey, it was revealed that Monday’s driving abilities were unknown, as the stolen vehicle was undergoing repairs.”
The PPRO disclosed that the case has been charged to court, adding that there were ongoing investigations to apprehend Monday’s accomplices in the car theft ring.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu, has urged individuals to install security cameras and alarms to prevent such incidents outside of working hours.
