June 12: Tinubu Pledges to Protect Democracy, Announce Executive Bill on New Minimum Wage

President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Tinubu, has pledged to protect democracy and its institutions.

He also acknowledged challenges facing the country, but emphasized the need for continued democratic progress.

The president stated this in his address to Nigerians on Wednesday, June 12, to commemorate the Democracy Day celebration.

Tinubu paid tribute to pro-democracy activists who fought for Nigeria’s transition to democracy.

He marked 25 years of uninterrupted democratic governance in Nigeria.

On commitment to democracy, President Tinubu addressed economic difficulties, highlighting reforms aimed at creating a stronger foundation for growth and ensuring equal access to economic opportunities.

On the national Minimum Wage, President Tinubu announced that an executive bill would be enacted on the new national minimum wage, negotiated with organized labour.

He encouraged Nigerians to work together in moving the country forward, emphasizing the importance of democracy and its institutions in achieving a brighter future for all.

Meanwhile, President Tinubu tripped and fell on Wednesday, while attempting to mount the parade vehicle during the Democracy Day celebration at the Eagle Square in Abuja.
