THE General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division, Nigerian Army (NA), Major General Emmanuel Emekah, has tasked officers and soldiers under his area of responsibility to key into the vision of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, in protecting critical national assets.
Major General Emekah gave the charge at the commissioning of 29 Battalion Officers’ Transit Accommodation in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, yesterday.
He commended the immediate past Commanding Officer (CO) of 29 Battalion for keying into the vision of COAS, by taking up a project that would enhance performance of the troops.
The GOC particularly charged commanders of different units to take a cue from what the CO of 29 Battalion has done to improve the operations of their lieutenants.
Major General Emekah, however, thanked COAS for the guidance and direction he is giving the Nigerian Army, stressing that the personnel have no choice than to follow his (Oluyede) vision.
He said: “Every other commander should take a cue from there. Do you own beat to add value to your command.
“I want to thank the Chief of Army Staff, COAS, for the guidance and direction he is giving to the Army. We have no choice than to follow his vision.”
The GOC advised beneficiaries to make judicious use of the facility, so that the purpose of building the transit accommodation would be achieved.
Earlier, the Commanding Officer (CO), 29 Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Irinam Joseph Otogo, said the event marked the achievement of another milestone of the Division’s mandate in Operation Delta Safe, which is in line with the COAS’ command philosophy ‘to consolidate the transformation of the NA towards bequeathing a well-motivated and combat ready force that can effectively discharge its constitutional responsibilities within a joint and multi-agency environment.”
According to him, “the moral and physical wellbeing of a force is as important as the battle readiness of the troops. This is to say that the output of a force is proportional to personal well-being.
“This project is a reflection of the army’s effort to improve the lives and well-being of its troops and by extension improving and developing their battle readiness, which is in turn to actualize the commands pursuit for restoration of peace and security in South-South (SS) region under the guidance of the GOC, 6 Division.
“However, we will not relent in our efforts. We will continue to seek measures within our reach to ensure that issues of accommodation for both officers and soldiers of the Battalion is completely resolved.”
