Army Gives Reason for Presence at FG, NLC, TUC Meeting

The Nigerian Army has stated that the soldiers present at the venue of the meeting between organized Labour and the Federal Government are the authorized military escorts for the National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu
The Army has refuted claims that the soldiers were surrounding the venue in an attempt to intimidate the labour leaders, labeling the allegations as false and misleading.
“The attention of Army Headquarters has been drawn to a false breaking news by NLC alleging that soldiers currently surround the venue of the ongoing meeting between NLC and the SGF.
“Kindly note that the NSA, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, who is also attending the meeting, arrived at the meeting venue with his retinue of statutorily approved military escorts. Once the meeting is over, the escorts will lead the NSA from the venue.”
The meeting was called to discuss the ongoing nationwide strike over minimum wage and workers’ demands.

Labour leaders rejected the government’s offer of N54,000 as a reduction in income for federal-level workers, who are already receiving N77,000
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) are insisting on an N615,000 minimum wage.
The Federal Government and labour unions will reconvened to discuss the national minimum wage.
The labour unions had given the government May 31 deadline to conclude negotiations.
