FORMER President of the Movement for the Survival of Ogoni People (MOSOP), Mr. Legborsi Pyagbara, has called on the President Bola Tinubu-led government investigate the role of security agencies in the gruesome murder of the Ogoni- Four on May 21, 1994.

Recall that on May 21, 1994, some Ogoni elite including, Albert Badey, Edward Kobani, Theophilus Orageh and Sam Orageh, were gruesomely murdered in controversial circumstances during a meeting at Giokoo in Gokana Local Government Area of Rivers State, by unidentified persons.

Pyagbara spoke in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, on occasion marking the remembrance of the Ogoni Four, accusing the Nigerian Government of having hand in the controversies that ravaged Ogoniland.

The former President of MOSOP further called on Ogoni people not to be divided, but work together in order to actualise the dreams and aspirations of their forebears.

He called on Federal Government to immortalize the four notable Ogoni illustrious sons, saying they were murdered because of their environment.

Pyagbara expressed: “On this occasion, we call on the Nigerian Government to set in motion machinery for the process of immortalization of these four Ogoni heroes. They died because of our environment. They died because of us.

“Additionally, we call on the President Bola Tinubu’s administration to conduct an inquiry into the role of security agencies in the event of May, 1994, when the deaths occurred.

“While we commemorate this date, the greatest honour and legacy we can give to our fallen heroes is to work tirelessly in the attainment of yet-to-be achieved goals of the struggle including remaining vigilant to oversee the proper implementation of the Ogoniland Remediation and Restoration Project.
