THE Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Rivers State Command, has deployed over 1,000 personnel made up of Regular and Special Marshals, 16 patrol vans, a heavy duty tow truck statewide, as part of its special patrol activities during the 2025 Easter celebrations.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Sector Public Education Officer (SPEO), RC AJ C-Ekwere, on behalf of CC Inyang E Umoh, Sector Commander, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State on Thursday.
The SPEO said the operation, which began Wednesday, April 16, and will run through April 23, 2025, is aimed at ensuring a safe and seamless Easter holiday for the good people of Rivers State.
C-Ekwere noted that there would be traffic control at various critical areas that would serve as a critical tool to ensure free flow of traffic on the Rivers State highways during the festive period.
The officer said: “In addition to the traffic control, the Command has set up a Situation Room at its State Headquarters to monitor activities across the State in real time. This unit will gather and disseminate relevant information to field Commands and stakeholders to facilitate prompt response and coordination.”
The SPEO outlined several offences that would be targeted during the operation, including over-speeding, dangerous driving, improper overtaking, lane indiscipline, road obstructions, phone use while driving, overloading, and violations of seatbelt and child restraint laws.
Other offences include lack of a passenger manifest, operation of mechanically unfit vehicles, and non-compliance with safety regulations concerning vehicle latching and twist-locking systems.
C-Ekwere explained: “The Unit Commanders in the State have been instructed to coordinate with key stakeholders within their jurisdiction to secure logistical and security support for effective enforcement.
“These stakeholders include the military, the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Immigration Service, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing.
“Additional partners include the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), state traffic management agencies, non-governmental organizations, ambulance service providers, the National Network on Emergency Rescue Services (NNES), the Federal Road Maintenance Agency, and the Federal Fire Service.”
