The Rivers State Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Commandant Basil Igwebueze, has warned that vandalism and destruction of Federal Government pipeline installations and other property are acts of terrorism.
State Commander, NSCDC, Commandant Basil Igwebueze, expressed this when members of Online Media Practitioners Association of Nigeria (OMPAN) paid him a courtesy visit in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.
Igwebueze applauded the Rivers State Chapter of OMPAN, noted the importance of online media in today’s word and in dissemination of information.
Commandant Igwebueze reeled out the successes recorded by the command after resuming office in combating and curbing the activities of pipeline vandals in the State.
He disclosed that vandalism and destruction of government property including pipelines is an act of terrorism as it is an economic sabotage.
He promised that, the command under his watch would work hand in hand with the OMPAN Rivers State chapter and also seek for a better collaboration with the body.
Igwebueze appealed the public and OMPAN to always report, alert and inform them whenever they notice or observe the activities of miscreants capable of throwing the state into destruction that might further lead to economic breakdown.
Earlier, chairman of the group, Chidiebele Okoye, thanked the commandant for his support and assured him that, the group would work with him and be professional in discharging of their duties as professionals.
The National Treasurer, Juachi Ochu, commended the commandant for his proactiveness in curbing the activities of pipeline vandals in the state and assured him that, the group would promote objectivity in their publications of the command.
He concluded by seeking for a more robust relationship between the command and the group.
