MOST Caretaker Committee chairmen of local government areas loyal to the Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, are successful candidates of Action Peoples Party (APP) for the October 5, 2024 council election.
The list reportedly released on Thursday by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), showed 21 names, who are mostly CTC chairmen appointment in June, this year by Governor Fubara.
Two local government areas, Abua/Odual and Asari-Toru have no candidates yet.
Former President of Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), Mr. Igwe Achese, is the APP candidate for Okrika LGA.
There have been speculations that because of the grip of the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on the state structure of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and romance with the All Progressives Congress (APC), the governor’s CTC chairmen would form alliance with APP for the forthcoming LGA election.
At the recent PDP delegates where new executive officers were elected at the State party secretariat, in Port Harcourt, the FCT minister, while addressing the delegates, hinted that the governor’s men would contest October 5 council poll under APP.
He encouraged the delegates not to be intimidated, saying it would be a proper avenue to test popularity.
Though, there has not been any official directive from Fubara for his supporters to vy under APP, there was a trending report on social media on Wednesday, that the governor gave them approval to pick APP tickets.
