Court Nullifies Edo PDP Governorship Primary

From PAULINE PODKA, Abuja

Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court Abuja, on Thursday, declared the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), February 22, 2024, primary election, that produced Asue Ighodalo as its governorship candidate invalid.

Justice Ekwo made the declaration while delivering judgement in a suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/165/2024, which was instituted by the aggrieved delegates, particularly, one Kelvin Mohammed, in a representative capacity.

Justice Ekwo voided the primaries on the ground that 378 delegates who were supposed to vote at the primary election were unlawfully excluded by PDP.

The suits were dismissed for lacking merit and being incompetent.

The court also ruled that the plaintiffs had no legal authority to file the cases in the first place.

Two separate lawsuits were filed challenging the legality of the PDP’s primary election.

The lawsuits were filed by Adizetu Hadizat, Audrey Abosede, Adunni Umoru and Moses Adomokha Alabi and Christopher Ebode Oboarere.

The suits were dismissed for lacking merit and being incompetent.

The court also ruled that the plaintiffs had no legal authority to file the cases in the first place.

Another lawsuit filed by the impeached former Deputy Governor of Edo State was dismissed due to a lack of legal standing.

The judge ordered the PDP and other defendants be put on notice and appear before the court to explain why the request of the plaintiffs/applicants should not be granted.
